Merca Virus - Is it Really A Virus?

I

s merca really a virus? Well infact it isn't. Merca, or MRSA is actually a strain of bacteria, commonly known as staphylococcus aureus. MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, acquired its name due to becoming resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. An MRSA infection can look like a single red bump that resembles a pimple or boil or an insect bite. It may also resemble a cluster of small reddish bumps and have pus or other leaking fluid.

MRSA is not actually caused by a virus like say, a flu. Instead, MRSA is a resistant strain of the bacteria staphylococcus aureus, which can be fatal if not treated.

Over the past decade, new strains of merca have emerged in the community that are capable of causing severe infections in otherwise healthy individuals. Beforehand merca was contained mostly in healthcare settings amongst those with weakened immune systems.

The newer strains amongst the general population are known as community-associated merca or MRSA. MRSA infections that are acquired in the hospitals and healthcare facilities are known as healthcare-associated MRSA. or HA-MRSA.
