RSA is Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus is a type of bacteria that causes infection. The number of infections have become quite alarming as the infected individuals have become present in communities outside the nursing care facilities where the strain was first discovered. Nowadays, MRSA has infected even healthy adults and children who have not been in a nursing care facility.
Staph bacteria is but one of the many kinds of bacteria that reside on the skin. If the bacteria remains outside the body, then they remain harmless. The problem arises when the bacteria enters through a break of the skin or an open hair follicle. Here the bacteria multiplies rapidly to run rampant. Normally, it is easy to medicate an ordinary staph infection. These often present themselves as pimple like bumps which may later develop into abscesses and boils over the affected area. The infection presents itself as cellulitis as the bacteria embeds itself on the skin and the fat tissues. Some other ways that infection presents itself as sties, carbuncles and impetigo. The best way to cure it was through antibiotic medication. Over time, because of the improper use of antibiotics, a new strain staph infection was created, the methicillin resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. The strain was developed from the remaining staph bacteria that remain when the full course of treatment for the antibiotics was not completed. MRSA infection leads to much more debilitating infections, such as bacteremia and sepsis, bone infection, meningitis, endocarditis and pneumonia as it enters the bloodstream. The problem with MRSA is its ability to resist normal broad-spectrum antibiotics. This makes MRSA a very dangerous bug once an individual catches it.

Because of its debilitating and sometimes fatal effects, identifying symptoms of the presence of MRSA is a paramount concern. The affected skin area would normally be red, swollen, painful and full of pus. The area may also look like a spider bite. The normal course of treatment would be antibiotics but the lack of positive response may lead to the conclusion that the infection is caused by MRSA. Other symptoms include fever, breathing difficulties, chills and severe chest pain. If this occurs, then the MRSA bacteria has entered the bloodstream and is causing severe infection inside the body. Once the bacteria enters the bloodstream, the initial symptoms of a much more severe MRSA infection includes shortness of breath, chills, fever, fatigue, aches and pains.

The best course of action to determine an MRSA infection is by way of an MRSA culture. The common course of treatment for MRSA is Bactrin or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and Cleocin or clindamycin and Vancocin or vancomycin. It is also that IV medication is undertaken to prevent the internal spread of the bacteria. The best way to handle and manage MRSA infections is by proper hygiene and dressing open wounds. The first step you need to do is keeping clean and avoiding possible sources of infection. In doing so, you not only keep yourself safe from the pernicious effects of MRSA staph infection but also prevent the spread of this bacteria for the safety of all.
